We have a full action packed meeting this Thursday at 7pm at Grain to Glass. Our very own Michael Wells has a cool presentation on Post Fermentation Adjustments. David Schumacher is going to do a beer profile on the Dunkelweizen. We will be drawing for our Ironbrewer Bracket and special ingredients (Fruit and Spice). Grain to Glass is going to have their new Pico Brew going at 6pm for those that want to come early and see this innovative piece of brewing equipment up close and personal. They also have a killer tap selection currently: Schlafly White Lager, Crane Orange Gose, Tallgrass IPA, Blvd Rye x 3; MILF. Please bring a tasting glass if you plan on coming. Hope to see you there.
Our February Meeting is in two weeks. This month education topic is Post Fermentation adjustments. Michael Wells will be leading the presentation. Michael will be covering adding flavor to your finished beer, fixing issues, and blending. This topic will be a great lead in for the 2016 Iron Brewer Tournament. We will be announcing the first round bracket and special ingredient(s). All our encouraged to participate in the Tournament. Its a great way to get out of your comfort zone and discover new flavors. We are officially announcing a new competition for the Kansas City area, NKC Irish Competition. This is a BJCP sanction competition accepting category 15, Irish Beer. This includes the Irish Red Ale, Irish Stout, and Irish Export Stout. Registration site is now open. Entries are due March 5th. Drop off location is at Grain to Glass in North Kansas City. Our first meeting of the year will be January 28 at Grain to Glass at 7pm. We will once again be starting out the year with the RIS OFF! Bring your best Russian Imperial Stout. We will judging them together using the GABF / BJCP BOS format and pick the winner. It’s a $5 entry with winner taking home the cash. A full growler or at least 4 bottles are required for this competition. Along with the RIS OFF we will have an education presentation on brewing software. New brewers are always welcome to attend. Our November meeting is the THIRD THURSDAY, November 19th. We will be crowning our 2015 Iron Brewer and doing a demo on brewing software. Meeting is at Grain to Glass at 7pm
Sunday, November 22nd we will be doing a large group brew, Steinbrew. Steinbrew is an old technique where you heat up hot rocks to bring your wort to a boil. We are shooting for 80 Gallons. Details are listed on the member only Facebook page.
December meeting will again be the THIRD THURSDAY, December 19th, and will also be our Christmas party. The party will be at Big Rip Brewery at 6pm. Still working out the details but plan on bringing a food item to share and the club will be purchasing some beer. We will also once again do our White Elephant Bottle Gift exchange. Last year we started off the year with the First Annual RIS OFF. We will be doing this again so get this big imperial stouts ready. You have 12 weeks from today to get one ready.
